Gera. If you like eating out in the city, you should definitely note these dates
Two traditional restaurants in Gera are about to reopen: the former "Distel" in Untermhäuser Maler-Reinhold-Straße and the "Kuckucksdiele" at the Stadtwald in Heinrichsgrün.
Both restaurants have recently been empty for a while. The "Distel" in the Schafwiesen cultural center, which belongs to the gardening association of the same name, has been closed since the end of 2023. The gardening association was looking for a successor for the long-time tenant and found Yuliia Svanidze. The 30-year-old trained cook from Ukraine, who initially founded a catering service called "Leckerland" this year, now also wants to continue running the restaurant in the cultural center under the name "Restaurant Leckerland".
The reopening of the "Kuckucksdiele" has been long awaited for even longer. It had been empty since autumn 2022 after the tragic death of the long-time owner and operator and was finally bought by Spyridon Gkogkas. He and his family have been running the "Oscar" on Humboldtstrasse for two years and would like to continue running the "Kuckucksdiele" under the well-known name.
Both restaurant successors were found thanks to the Gera-based company Weidener Immobilien. And both want to open their doors to guests at the end of October, as our editorial team found out. Yuliia Svanidze will start with the "Leckerland" on Saturday, October 26th. Spyridon Gkogkas will then celebrate the reopening of the "Kuckucksdiele" on Wednesday, October 30th. The gastronomy industry in Gera will once again have two more destinations.
