Recipe gives hope: New hope for the Gera Kuckucksdiele
Commentary: Marcel Hilbert on the kiss for a restaurant in deep sleep
How abrupt the temporary closure came can be seen from the tables that are still set in the dining room. As if a sudden Sleeping Beauty sleep had taken hold of the "Cuckoo's Hall" and all it needed was a loving kiss and the dining rooms were immediately bustling again.
It will certainly not be quite as "fairytale-like" when the Greek-born Gera innkeeper Spyridon Gkogkas takes over the traditional address. Of course, after a year of vacancy, there is a lot to do before the doors can be opened again, until everything is running again, until the order books are as full as they apparently were a year ago.
In other words: It will not be a walk in the park. Especially since the clock has moved on and the crisis-ridden overall situation has certainly not become any easier. But the name and reputation of the restaurant on the one hand, the previous performance of the new operator on the other hand and the decision of one to rely on the tradition of the other sound like a recipe that gives confidence.
